We're working on Neptunium at the moment and have a few other things online that we've stocked up on.

There are now Gift Cards available on our site. These are digital and can be given in any amount. They can be found on our Merch page.

We will be out of the office between Christmas and New Years, so no orders will be shipped out between Dec. 25th and Jan 1st. Any orders placed during that week will be sent out asap starting on Jan 2nd.

Also, once we're back after the holidays, we'll be stocking up on Electrum and some other colors that are waiting in the queue.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and support! We are beginning to get back online. Many houses and businesses still don't have power or internet, and city water is going to take a while to restore. However, we have been able to make glass again here at The Lab and are starting to ship out orders. The internet is not 100%, so it is slow going at the moment. UPS came to pick up some boxes and USPS is mostly operational, so we will do our best to get as many orders out as we can this week.

As many of you saw, the river district in Asheville was hit hard, and Mountain Glass Arts and Level42 were not spared. Please visit their IG pages for information about how to help them get back on their feet. Both have GoFundMe links in their profiles.

Update from Asheville! As many of you probably know by now, Western North Carolina got devastated by a storm from the latest hurricane. The storm came through last Thursday and Friday and we have been without power, without Internet, and without cell service since then. We don't have power yet at the Lab, and when we do, it will likely take several days to get everything back online. We were steadily getting caught up with electrum back orders, but now we are obviously even more behind. The Postal Services are not running yet, so even when we get our power back on and, start making glass again, I'm not sure what the timing is of UPS and USPS etc. We appreciate everybody's understanding and patience while we work through all of this. We are safe and our families are safe and we have what we need for now. We will keep you posted as things progress and improve.

We are steadily getting caught up on backorders of Ion and we appreciate everyone's patience and enthusiasm for this new color! Backorders are 1 to 2 weeks out right now. We have some Abnormals in stock now as well as some Royal Jelly, Telemagenta, and Meta-Terrania. Gold Amethyst is next up.

Lastly, we have some sick new glow in the dark ION stickers that just came in. Our stickers get sent out with each order - one for each color you've ordered - and usually a pyramid sticker, if we have them.

We have some more experimental colors available online now. You can find them in the R&D section of our website.

Green Agate is similar to Xenomorph, but with deep, jade green coloration. Charlene @chacha_chainz recently used this color to make the stunning chain pictured above.

We also made a batch of Blue Agate, which produces dark and light shades of blue and dark olive tones.

Both colors are extremely fun and responsive in the flame. After shaping, you can selectively bring out swirls of opacity and color with the flame. You will also see different effects by using the colors under clear.

We're super excited about the color pictured here. We call it Xenomorph
It is a pretty crazy EffecTone - just as fun to work as Agate, but with electric greens, blues, and whites that pop against a dark background of liquidy black.
There are also test batches of Copper Ruby, Neutronium, and Telemagenta Lite on sale now.

Telemagenta is a gorgeous magenta AuraTone. This is a saturated gold-based color that works smoothly in a wide range of flame types. Radiant, or “incidental” heat will enhance the inner glow. So the thicker a section is and the more it is worked/sculpted/roasted, the more the "Aura" will develop. Conversely, a hot, sharp flame will clear it out and return it to transparent.

Unworked rods may appear very light pink – sometimes almost white – but the magenta will strike in fully when worked in the flame.

Recommended Garage/Anneal temp: 1075°F

Agate is an EffecTone that swirls with browns, whites, and subtle blues. Similar to our AuraTones, this will opacify the more it is worked, and can be cleared out with a hot, sharp flame. However, it is an EffecTone, and as such will develop light and dark areas less predictably, creating more of a “Raku” glaze effect.

Mike is renowned for his next-level sculpting, exquisite proportions, and attention to detail. If you ever get a chance to see his work in person, do it. These are glassy treasures forged in the breath of a dragon.

~ NEUTRONIUM, ROYAL JELLY, TELEMAGENTA ~

Our latest transparent gray color, Neutronium, along with Royal Jelly and Telemagenta are online today!

Neutronium is the hypothetical element "zero" on the periodic table. Theoretically, it contains no protons or electrons - only neutrons. This element can typically only exist under the crushing gravity at the core of a neutron star. Luckily we happened to have a few of those lying around here at The Lab. So, we wrangled some into glass form, and voilà - NEUTRONIUM was born!

Neutronium is designed to be a neutral universal accent, harmonizing with any color on the spectrum. Use a thick layer over or under other colors to darken and slightly mute them creating new shades. It’s also a stylish alternative to clear or black.

This gorgeous chain was created by Charlene Foster @chacha_chainz

Charlene’s work is consistently elegant and beautifully crafted, and this Neutronium chain is a great example. Thanks to Charlene for creating this piece for us and for the crisp, luminous photos that show off this new color so well!

Just in time for spring! Limestone is a fantastically bright, transparent lime green hue. It has all of the smooth working properties you have come to expect from our glass. Crystalline, air-free, and supersaturated, this new color is a beautiful addition to our ever-growing GemTones™ palette.

We’re trying something new this month; we are turning on pre-orders while still in production mode. This means we can start shipping out color sooner and will have a better idea of demand as we continue to finish this production cycle. We do have Sunstone BETA batches still available along with some other colors on the site.

Be aware that your order will not ship out until all items in your order are in stock.

Limestone 1st Quality is $130/lb. We will begin shipping out orders including LIMESTONE beginning March 8th and plan to have all orders filled within 2-3 weeks depending on demand.

Orders for Gold Amethyst will be available on Friday August 6th at noon EST until noon on August 7th. If the stock sells out, you can place a backorder and still get the color within this current run. Backorders typically ship out within 1-2 weeks of ordering. If you are on the email list for this newsletter and/or the notifications list for a particular color on our site, you will get notified when that color is in stock.

Additionally, an Amethyst variant called Gold Violet will be available. We ran some custom batches for those of you wanting a transparent purple that leans more blueish and less reddish.
Also, there is a limited variety of Abnormals that will be posted, including Telemagenta and Royal Jelly. Our Abnormals are free of stones and are still high quality glass. The rods are typically out of round, short, thick or thin, or have minimal air or surface flaws.

Lastly, we are excited to announce that Lotus White is officially back in production! We are stocking up now and plan to have another announcement soon when we have an exact drop date. Stay tuned!

SUNSTONE has arrived!

Sunstone is a transparent, kiln-striking, candy-orange GemTone™

This glass works smoothly in a wide range of flame types, but a neutral flame is typically advised. The color may start to show up as you work your piece and have it in and out of the kiln at various stages. Then a final annealing will bring out the full color.

Ideal orange color saturation is formed around 6 hours at 1075°F. Similar results can be achieved at 1100°F for 4 hours or 1050°F for 8 hours depending on your setup. Overstriking may lead to more amber tones and some haze may develop in thick and/or highly worked areas. We suggest testing some small worked parts to determine what times and temps work best with your particular working style and kiln.

For the cleanest look, blowouts are preferable to coilpots.
